Why Do Furnaces Wear Out?

Life Expectancy of a Gas Furnace

Current furnace technology has dramatically advanced in recent years. Older furnaces could only last 30 to 40 years, but current research from The American Council for an Energy-Efficient Economy report that older furnaces leak silent poisonous gases such as carbon monoxide into the air. Also, older furnaces are less energy efficient and could really rack up some scary utilities bills.

Modern furnaces can last up from 15 to 20 years IF taken care of, installed properly, and sized for the home and duct work. Plus, modern gas furnaces are a great way to lower your utility bills this winter.

Dust & Dirt Related Problems

Failure to take care of a gas furnace could lead to problems such as a mass collection of dust & dirt in your system, which could then lead to a breakdown or, even worse, a total failure of your heating system.

Important: Do not operate your furnace without filters. Dirt & Dust entrained with the air can lodge in the blower wheel, cooling coil fins, furnace controls, air ducts, and at the supply registers. Any re-circulated dirt or dust particles are heated and charred by contact with the heat exchanger. This residue soils ceilings, walls, drapes, carpets, and other household articles.
