What To Look For In Your Home

Home Energy Audit Expert Performing an Energy Audit
Poorly Insulated Bathroom Tub.

What To Look For

The image to the right has a poorly insulated bathroom tub underside, this can contribute to a 30% heat loss in your bathroom, and would always make for a colder shower. Some symptoms of what you see in the image to the right would be cold areas in your home. Other symptoms include warm and cold spots in your home that you may notice. Did you know that attic floors are 65% of the cause of air leaks in your home. Ask yourself if you would rather be breathing in healthy clean air from outside or dirty air from your poorly insulated garage or crawlspace.

FREE Thermal Imaging:

Thermal imaging is the technique of sensing and recording on film hot and cold areas in a home by means of an infrared detector that reacts to warm or cold areas. Our Home Energy Experts can show you the difference with our thermal imaging camera, just take a look at the difference. Plus, the best part is that it's FREE, when we perform an Energy Audit.

It does not matter if your home has just been built or if you have an older home. Below is a prime example of a newly built home that has a lot of heat loss causing this homeowner to have high heating bills this winter. This 1 1/2 year old home contains large sections of walls with cold spots the homeowner did not even know about. The colder spots are indicated in blue and the warmer spots are indicated in yellow and red. These images made this homeowner say "WOW!, I can't believe how much energy I am wasting."

This is just above the doorway, the darker or blue spots indicate that there is cold air coming in thru this wall and there is not enough insulation.

You can not believe how much energy is lost in this section of the wall! This is the same image with a regular camera

Here we have the other corner just above the doorway that was also not insulated properly.

This attic door is SOOOO Cold! This is the same image with a regular camera

Here is an example of how cold an attic staircase can become, if not properly insulated and sealed.

Cold air entering the home from a ceiling light

This thermal image shows warm and cold areas of a ceiling light during one of the Home Energy Audit tests. The dark spots are the colder areas and the lighter spots are the warmer areas. The cold areas in this thermal image appear streaked because of the air movement from the blower door test. A blower door test is when your Home Energy Expert removes the air from your home so they can see exactly where air is leaking into our home.

Cold air can also leak into your home through a closet or even your home's ductwork system. To the right is an example of cold air leakage.

Did You Know??
This year humans will generate around 26 billion tons of excess carbon dioxide (CO2) – that’s 4.3 tons per person. All that extra CO2 precipitates global warming and leads to severe human and animal respiratory problems.
